Dakoda Armstrong Battles for Top-20 Finish in Phoenix

AVONDALE, AZ (March 13, 2016) – With two consecutive weeks of bad luck in his rear view mirror, Dakoda Armstrong entered the second race of NASCAR’s West Coast swing looking for some positive momentum to the early part of the 2016 season. While the bad luck bug once again plagued Armstrong and his JGL Racing team, the 24-year old driver’s determination proved strong as he wheeled his No. 28 JGL Racing Toyota to a well-earned 18th-place finish in the running of the Axalta 200 at the Phoenix International Raceway.

“That was an eventful day but we just kept fighting as a team and pulled out a top-20 finish,” said Armstrong.  “We had some more bad luck during qualifying with a failure with our right rear hub which forced us to make repairs and start the race from the rear of the field.  While that put us in a hole from the beginning, our No. 28 Toyota handled fairly well and we were able to work our way through the field.”

While Dakoda would qualify in the 26th position, a mechanical issue discovered during qualifying required repairs and forced the No. 28 Toyota to start the 200-lap event from the rear of the field.  At the drop of the green flag, Armstrong would charge through the field and move inside the top-20 by lap 50.  A caution-less second half of the race would foil some race strategy from the JGL Racing crew but in the end a determined team and driver would come home with their second top-20 finish of the season.

“I am proud of everyone on this JGL Racing team,” added Dakoda.  “It has been an unlucky past few weeks for us and we were presented with even more this week in qualifying.  But everyone put their heads down and together we battled for a finish we should be proud of.  Hopefully this is the beginning of some positive momentum for us and we start clicking off the performances and finishes we all know we are capable of.”

The 18th-place finish would move Armstrong up two spots to the 13th position in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers’ standings – just seven points out of the top ten.

Armstrong and his JGL Racing team next head to Auto Club Speedway for the running of the TREATMYCLOT.com 300.  The last race of the West Coast swing will be Saturday March 19th and can be seen LIVE on FOXSports 1 at 4:00 pm ET.  It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Channel 90.
