CONCORD, NC (May 29, 2016) – After his much anticipated return to NASCAR XFINITY Series action two weeks ago in Dover, Drew Herring cherished the opportunity to get back behind the wheel in his home state. The North Carolina native steered his No. 24 Young Guns Toyota to an 18th-place finish in the running of the Hisense 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday.
“It was a hot, long and tough race out there today,” said Herring. “Unfortunately we missed it a little bit and we were just too tight during the race. I am really proud of the effort and hard work from everyone on this JGL Racing team. No one gave up and we got everything we could out of the car during the race.”
Herring would start the 200-lap event from the 20th position as a result of his qualifying effort earlier in the day. With a hot and slick race track presenting a challenge for teams and drivers, Drew reported to his crew very early in the race that he was just too tight and was losing the nose of his No. 24 Toyota in the corners.
With the race featuring more cautions that normal, the JGL Racing crew would bring Herring down pit road on multiple occasions in an effort to improve his handling. While he continued to battle the tight condition of his car, Drew would fight all the way to the checkered flag to garner his second consecutive top-20 finish.
“Steven Lane (crew chief) made great calls from the pit box and the entire team battled all day long,” added Drew. “We learned a lot throughout the weekend and that will only make us better in the future. I greatly appreciate the opportunity given to me by JGL Racing and look forward to future opportunities.”
The NASCAR XFINITY Series will next head to Pocono Raceway for the running of the Pocono Green 250. The 12th race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday June 4th and can be seen LIVE on FOX at 1:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
